Back to Activities

Paula Armstrong Ceramics is a friendly creative ceramics studio in Fenstanton where you can have fun with clay no matter your level of experience!

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • It's a very mindful activity that focuses on the act of making with clay. It engages the mind and body together to create fantastic ceramics.
  • The quiet studio is a peaceful space to concentrate on the act of making without distractions, and with others who are learning and making too.
  • Clay is a fabulous medium for self-expression. Hand-building in clay especially gives the maker time to think and make both conscious and unconscious creative decisions to express yourself.

"During lockdown...beyond the technical and creative guidance, what I cherished most is the sense of community and connection she (Paula) fostered, even through a screen. Her belief in the power of art to heal and bring people together kept me motivated during those tough months. "

What to Expect

There are plenty of ways to get stuck into the magic of clay. From one-off sessions that can be booked to suit busy lives, to monthly family and children’s workshops and term-time beginners’ courses — there’s something for everyone. The studio also runs a vibrant programme of themed experiences including regular raku firing workshops (think fire and transformation!) and soothing, simple kintsugi sessions that celebrate beauty in imperfection. For those looking to dive a little deeper, there are special workshops covering everything from coiling techniques to whimsical garden sculptures.

For those who’ve found their clay groove and want more time to create, studio membership is available. This offers two peaceful hours of studio time each week, including all materials and firings — perfect for regular creative nourishment.

The studio also offers bespoke workshops and prides itself on being flexible and inclusive, always striving to make working with clay as accessible as possible.

There’s no need to bring anything along for workshops — just wear clothes you don’t mind getting delightfully messy in, and come ready to relax, play, and create.

More Information

There’s wheelchair access into the studio, and while the standard tables aren’t wheelchair-friendly underneath, a folding table is always ready to ensure everyone has a comfortable space to work.

Parking is available on nearby roads. To reach the front door (look for the cheerful yellow!), there’s a small green to cross. Inside, you’ll find a DDA-compliant toilet and a cosy kitchenette with a kettle and coffee machine — because clay-making and cuppas go hand in hand.

Public transport is an option too, though the village buses can be a little unpredictable. The nearest stop is just a two-minute stroll away on the high street.

Online tutorials on the YouTube page are free. Please see here for more information.

All workshops have a cost to them; please visit their website for more details.
