Armour – St Neots

Back to Support

To create a safety net for 16 to 25 year olds who self harm through the lens of a tattoo studio.

This project leverages the unique position of tattoo artists, who engage directly with individuals about their skin, to provide a safe and supportive environment for clients who may need additional help.

At Pennyroyal, the aim is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for those who self-harm. It is a place where individuals can talk openly about their experiences, or choose not to, depending on their comfort level. When someone is ready, they can be connected with professionals trained to provide the necessary support, whether it’s for a casual conversation or during a crisis.

Addressing this issue is essential, as the studio frequently encounters self-harm in its various forms, necessitating discussions about how it might impact tattoos and piercings.

This understanding led to the creation of the Armour Project, recognizing the importance of providing a space where individuals feel comfortable opening up. Although the staff are not mental health experts, they are trained as mental health first aiders and aim to empower individuals with the tools and support they may need.

The project acknowledges the challenges involved and stresses that there is no intention to dictate behaviour. The goal is simply to ensure that no one feels alone and to offer support. The team can provide coping strategies, guidance, and, most importantly, a listening ear.

Anyone who resonates with this or knows someone who might benefit is encouraged to reach out. Regular coffee evenings are held, offering a space for individuals to connect with others who are navigating similar challenges.
