Meet Ellie, Sarah and Lucy who are Peer Support Workers with the Perinatal Mental Health Service:

What to expect

CPFT’s Perinatal Mental Health Service is accessed via referral from your GP, midwife or health visitor. The Service supports women experiencing symptoms of mental illness in pregnancy and during the first year after birth including:

  • severe depression and/or severe anxiety
  • bipolar disorder
  • schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder
  • other non-organic psychotic illness
  • OCD
  • eating disorders
  • personality disorders
  • postpartum psychosis*
  • attachment disorders (problems and difficulties with the bond between mum and baby) during pregnancy and with infants under one year old

*Postpartum psychosis is a sudden and severe mental illness that begins in the first few days or weeks after having a baby. If you have concerns that you, or someone you know, is experiencing postpartum psychosis you should seek immediate, same day support.
